CGIAR´s 2020 Big Data in Agriculture Convention will be the fourth annual event to bring together the people and organizations that make the BIG DATA Platform successful. You can expect focused, action-based discussion to find commonalities across research institutes, governments, and private organizations, setting the stage for a productive and data-driven year ahead.

The 2020 theme has yet to be announced, but will build on the theme of TRUST: Humans, Machines & Ecosystems from 2019.

Important covid-19 information

The BIG DATA Platform is monitoring the COVID-19 situation and will operate on the research and guidance of the CDC, WHO, and Peru’s Ministry of Health as the date of the 2020 Convention approaches. We will keep our participants, speakers, and partners informed as decisions are made.

The event will be hosted by the International Potato Center during 21-23 October in Lima, Peru.

Previous conventions


We are expecting up to 700 members of the scientific community and digital agriculture practitioners to join us in Lima to participate in an exciting round of sessions, dynamic discussion groups, an interactive innovation bazaar, and our Inspire Challenge awards night.

We are also offering a unique opportunity for industry experts to host their own Q&A session on key topics in their area of expertise.

For those who cannot attend in person, we will be streaming the event live online.


We are expecting over 60 speakers and industry experts during up to 50 sessions over the course of three days.

We have structured the program to be dynamic and interactive and are hosting, in addition to structured panel sessions, deep-dive breakout sessions and intimate Q&A’s where attendees will have direct access to get their burning questions answered by experts who are leaders in the field.

Like last year, will be closing the event with a bang by announcing the winners of the 2020 Inspire Challenge in a special awards ceremony.
