2020 Convention session – Exploring the CGIAR digital strategy
This session on the CGIAR digital strategy aired live at the 2020 virtual CGIAR Convention on Big Data in Agriculture.
This session broaches the topic of linking ontologies and thesauri to support the annotation of both data and publications. AGROVOC is a popular multi-lingual thesaurus with a wide coverage, mainly used in metadata of publications stored in repositories and databases while quality ontologies, providing richer semantic relationships, are used to annotate data at a granular level. These resources share similar concepts but also provides domain-specific terms. In this context, would it be a good practice to semantically connect AGROVOC with complementary ontologies?
The CGIAR has an emergent focus on digital and the role that it plays in research and agriculture. This session showcases findings from focus groups and looks at the trends in digital ag and strategy. We are joined by regional experts who analyze the emerging trends and help us drive action.
