Looking for more information about your upcoming trip?

Arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA)

After checking through the customs desk, you will be received by staff from Covenant Tours. This is an ICRAF accredited travel company. For ease of identification, they will carry a pager board bearing the name “ICRAF” or your name. In the event that nobody arrives to pick you up, or for some reason you have missed your flight or changed your itinerary altogether, kindly call either of the following persons:

Covenant Tours will provide you with transport to the Trademark Hotel. ICRAF will coordinate all official movements and will keep you updated in good time. The distance from the airport to Trademark is around 30km (on average this may take 40 minutes’ drive, subject to traffic density).

Accommodation

Hotel accommodation for participants has been reserved at the Trademark hotel at a discounted rate until the 10th of September. Book your room with this link to take advantage of the discount, or contact the hotel direct to facilitate the booking processs. Address: Limuru Rd, Nairobi, Kenya The hotel is approximately 1.5Km from ICRAF. Please note that the hotel is located next door to a big shopping mall. Please make sure you settle all your personal bills, and show your convention attendance passes when you check out from the hotel. For any assistance on travel & accommodation, contact:

IT Support at the Hotel and ICRAF

Internet connectivity is available at the Trademark Hotel. Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) support will be provided throughout the meeting.

Medical, Insurance and Emergency

Medical advice and assistance is the responsibility of the participant. We recommend that you speak to your medical practitioner about your travel plans, specifically regarding vaccinations or other precautions, before your trip.

Convention Venue & Registration

The meeting will take place at the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) HQ offices located at the UN Avenue, Gigiri. The opening reception will be at the ICRAF Conference Hall – ICRAF HQS on 3-5 October 2018 at 0730HRS.

Registration will take place at ICRAF. Upon registration, you will be provided with a convention nametag which you will be required to produce at the ICRAF main gate. Please wear your nametag at all times while at the ICRAF campus.

Coffee & Tea

During the Big Data convention, tea/coffee will be served outside the main Conference Hall throughout the day.

Food & Dining

Lunch and snacks will be provided to all participants throughout the meeting.  

We would be very grateful if you could kindly provide Sallyannie with any dietary requirements well in advance (i.e. vegetarian, vegan, any food allergies such as nuts etc.).

Hors d’oeuvres will be provided at the end of the first two days and participants are invited to the final awards night cocktail dinner, hosted at the Trademark ballroom.

Transport

In case you need to go out of the hotel, it is advisable to use a branded taxi. We recommend Jim cab taxi services [based around Gigiri area] or Covenant transport services based at ICRAF campus. Alternatively, the hotel reception can assist.

Currency

The currency is Kenya Shillings (KES). The Kenya shilling is freely exchangeable, and most major facilities/shopping outlets accept major credit cards.

There is a bank located at ICRAF Campus where major foreign currencies can also be changed to Kenya Shillings.

Communications

Telephone (including mobile phone), fax and internet/email services are widely available. The Dialing Code for Kenya is +254, and city code for Nairobi is 020. If you want to buy a local SIM card, these are widely available from accredited shops. You will, however, be requested to provide your passport details or National identification details and a copy of the same.

Plastic Policy at ICRAF

ICRAF maintains a strict no plastic policy so, if you are in the habit of using a water bottle, please bring one that is made from an alternative material.

Electricity

Adaptors: In Kenya the sockets used are type G.
