Webinar – Potential climate-related impacts on future maize and wheat yields

This webinar by the Crop Modeling Community of Practice presents a recently published study showing potential climate-related impacts on maize and wheat yields as early as 2030.

In this webinar by the Crop Modeling Community of Practice by the CGIAR Platform for Big Data in Agriculture, panelist Jonas Jägermeyr (NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, The Earth Institute at Columbia University, and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK)) presents crop modeling work on maize and wheat published recently in Nature Food.

The study shows climate change impacts on crop yields as early as 2030 could affect both maize and wheat. Using a multi-crop, multi-climate change model approach, maize yields could be reduced as much as 24% while wheat shows positive changes especially in higher latitudes.
