Calling for delegates to participate in 2019 Youth in Data Media Bootcamp!

This event builds on the launch of our BIG DATA youth initiatives, as we work to engage with youth in the agriculture and digital space sector in a meaningful way.

The aim of the workshop is to engage youths with an interest in data, technology, and agriculture on how to use digital media as a powerful tool to communicate on and give visibility to their projects. For those already working in media, it´s an opportunity to learn more about digital agriculture and its important role in the future of global food security.

This event builds on the launch of our BIG DATA youth initiatives, as we work to engage with youth in the agriculture and digital space sector in a meaningful way.

The training will be held on the 14-15 October and the practical implementation during the 2019 Platform for Big Data in Agriculture – TRUST: HUMANS, MACHINES & ECOSYSTEMS – held 16-18 October. This will be the second event in a series of workshops the CGIAR Platform for Big Data in Agriculture hopes to run each year.

What is it?

The workshop is a five-day experience, starting with a two-day media Bootcamp where delegates will learn the basics of social media, interviewing, blog writing, data reporting, and other media skills. After the initial two day workshop, participants will have the opportunity to put their newly-acquired skills into action during the 2019 BIG DATA Platform Convention – TRUST: Humans, Machines & Ecosystems.

Participants will be expected to engage with the communications team via live-tweeting, live videos, interviewing of participants, blog writing and more.

The event will be coordinated by Communication Specialist Raghav Hunasgi, who is the Founder and CEO of ThoughtFolks, a digital transformation organization that is driving India´s startup innovation movement. Raghav has been recognized across the industry for his expertise and professional acumen, receiving awards such as Economic Times Young Leader and Forbes Top Social Media Influencer.

What will you get out of it?

By the end of the week, participants will have:

  • learned and had the opportunity to apply invaluable communication skills,
  • connected with some of the industry´s most prominent experts,
  • they will be invited to attend the awards ceremony. It´s a dinner and cocktail event with live music, during which the CGIAR BIG DATA Platform will also be awarding one million USD to the winners of our Inspire Challenge.
  • had a LOT of fun and made new friends and connections.

What other participants had to say

“The 2018 Youth in Data initiative and the 2018 conference on Big Data in Agriculture were one of the best experiences for me. It boosted my ability to increase my online presence, hone my skills on conference reporting. It also increased my confidence for public speaking and networking skills, given that I was assigned the responsibility to conduct live interviews for top professionals across the globe.” John Agboola, farmer and 2018 Youth in Data participant.

” Data interpretation made me find agriculture very interesting and have a wider perspective beyond land preparation, planting and harvesting. I encourage all youth to participate in the initiative and learn the need for data in agriculture.” Grace Waithira, media professional and 2018 Youth in Data participant.
